From Setback to Comeback: Embracing Growth in Tech Sales

Building Strength Through Imperfect Moments

I want to share something real with you - I just started as a Sales Development Representative at a top tech company, and honestly? It's both thrilling and terrifying. Every day I'm learning something new, making mistakes, growing, and discovering what I'm truly capable of.

Just a couple of weeks ago, I was in your shoes. I was that person devouring every piece of sales advice I could find, wondering if I had what it takes to make it in tech sales. I know that feeling of uncertainty, that mix of excitement and nervousness about what's ahead.

But here's what I've already learned: this journey isn't just about making calls or hitting quotas. It's about finding your authentic voice, building real connections, and growing into the person you want to become. And that's exactly why I started this newsletter - to share the raw, unfiltered reality of breaking into sales, one day at a time.

The Reality of Growth: Last week's validation presentation was a humbling experience. Despite meticulous preparation, my confidence faltered at the crucial moment, and my mind went blank. This setback, however, taught me a valuable lesson: true growth emerges from our willingness to be vulnerable.

And you know what? That's exactly why I love being in sales.

Why Sales Transforms Us: The sales environment is uniquely powerful. Every day, we step into a space filled with driven individuals who've chosen to pursue something more. It's not always pretty or comfortable, but it's always authentic. The energy here transcends closing deals; it's about becoming more than we were yesterday.

Finding Your Authentic Path: What's most fascinating about this journey is how sales attracts such diverse personalities. As a former theatre kid, I never expected to find my tribe here. Yet among these passionate individuals, I've discovered a community that pushes me to grow beyond what I imagined possible for myself.

A Personal Challenge: This week, I invite you to reflect on these questions:

  1. What brought you true happiness recently?

  2. What conversations make your eyes light up?

  3. Where do you find yourself most energized?

If you're struggling to answer these questions, remember: it's okay to reach out. Whether it's to a friend, family member, or even me on Instagram - we all need support sometimes.

Moving Forward Together: The beauty of this journey is that we're all learning together. When I look back at where I started versus where I am now, the transformation isn't just in my sales skills - it's in how I view myself and what I believe is possible.

Keep pushing forward,
